God uses Soul Friends in Scripture to encourage one another and so can we!
Soul Friends is a ministry of personal encouragement and accountability from the Holy Spirit through another person. Soul Friends are pairs or triads of men or women who meet together regularly to build relationships with each other, listen and affirm the Spirit’s action and loving presence in his or her life and pray for one another. It is primarily a ministry of listening, discernment, and prayer. The types of Soul Friends are listed below:
Discipling: Guiding a person through a study with a purpose of growing in your faith
Spiritual Friendship: Two persons commit themselves to an ongoing relationship for "mutual" spiritual growth
Christian Mentoring: Relationship of looking over someone els's shoulder, emulating some admired older Christian
Faithwalker: Provideing one-on-one support through listening and prayer, while walking along side someone going through a trial, issue or transition (i.e. divorce, loss, single parenting, blended families, addiction, financial crisis)
"I have had the privilege of sharing my faith with other women through the Soul Friends ministry here at ECC. Not only have I seen the excitement in the faces of those who are experiencing God's love in thier daily walk, but also have been challenged to 'be still,' listen and focus more on God's direction in my life. Dr. Wayne Moore describes mentoring so well: 'Mentoring is a briain to pick, a shoulder to cry on, a push in the right direction.' I have been so blessed to be a part of Soul Friends." Penny D.
"A I have been blessed to have a Soul Friend come along beside me. I was at a point in my life where I didn't have direction and was wallowing in self-doubt and no purpose. She let me be open and honest, come out of hiding and truly see that God loves me for who he created, no matter what my past is, and that I have only to seek him with my heart completely his to find direction. Penny showed me that being still to listen for the guidance and finding the peace is so important to continued renewal. We continue to grow together and have a special bond between us that has God at the center." Julle T.
"I found the program to be a blessing from the Lord. I must admit that I was a little nervous going into it because of the one-on-one format, but it turned out to be an incredible experience. The personal relationship that developed with my brother in Christ is one that will endure. We got to know each other, we shared about our struggles, we prayed together, and we learned from one another. I would highly recommend this study to anyone who is looking for encouragement and reassurance as they continue their Christian journey." Travis A.
"I found the program to be the most rewarding and eye-opening experiences I can recall. I went into it not knowing what to expect and nervous that my lack of spiritual experience would be a real burden or embarrassing situation. This was never the case as Travis and I communicated about life, spirituality, and daily struggles, and we tried to throw in some personal successes as well. I found myself looking forward to the weekly lunch each time and felt myself opeining up further each week. I had never prayed in public previously and always felt apprehensive about the thought of it, but now I find myself taking a moment to do it whenever I go out to eat. The bond that Travis and I developed will be everlasting. I now look at him as a true brother in Christ and the experience has made me a better person in the process." Jeff S.
